On Sept. 17, a UK investment immigration agency released its 2024 “centi-millionnaire” report, showing that the number of ultra-wealthy individuals had increased significantly in the last decade. “Centi-millionnaires” are those with more than US$100 million in liquid investible assets. The top five regions for centi-millionaires were, in descending order, New York City, the Bay Area and Los Angeles in the US, London, UK and Singapore. Taipei was also in the Top 50 list, ranking 39th globally with 82 centi-millionaires calling the city home. Let’s hear from an analyst.

US$100 million is equal to NT$3 billion. Our top players in tech, I’m sure they have more than that, so I believe there are actually more than 82. Because Taiwan is riding on the coattails of AI, so in the future there should be more rich people in Taiwan, especially in tech, there should be a lot more.

According to the report, there are now 29,350 centi-millionaires globally, a 54% increased compared to ten years ago. The report also forecasted that the number of ultra-wealthy individuals in Taipei may increase by more than 150% by 2040. The forecast may be linked to current industrial and economic trends in Taiwan.
