“Waves of Wonder” is the new slogan for Taiwan’s international tourism campaign. The rebrand was announced by the Tourism Administration on Monday. Tourism officials also announced a new subsidy program to revitalize Hualien’s tourism sector after the April 3 earthquake. Starting June 1, hotel stays from Monday to Thursday will be NT$1,000 off. From Friday to Sunday, the discount will be NT$500.

Taiwan tourism is getting its third rebrand under the slogan “Waves of Wonder.” The goal is to encourage tourists to visit Taiwan year-round.

This promotional video will be played at major train stations around the world and even at Times Square in New York. The Tourism Administration has also released a theme song for the campaign.

The slogan for Version 1.0 was “Touch Your Heart,” for 2.0, it was “Heart of Asia.” Now, we’re going with “Waves of Wonder” to promote Taiwan’s diversity and beauty. Our mountains and our oceans and other natural landscapes are all about curves. We offer wave after wave of wonders.

The April 3 earthquake in Hualien resulted in a wave of cancellations. In response, the Tourism Administration plans to spend NT$965 million to boost independent and tour group travel from June 1 to Sept. 30.

The independent travel subsidy program for Hualien will start on June 1. Travelers can get NT$1,000 per day from Monday to Thursday, and NT$500 on holidays, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. This all applies to travel in Hualien. We reported previously that our goal was to boost occupancy by 20% and our goal remains unchanged.

A similar program will soon be announced for Taitung, in hopes of helping East Coast tourism recover from the earthquake.
