The weather was hot and dry in Taipei on Sunday, but wet weather is on the horizon. The Central Weather Administration says a weather front will pass by the north coast on Monday, raising the chances of rain all over the island. We’ll get a brief respite on Tuesday before another front arrives Wednesday that will lower temperatures. Let’s hear from a meteorologist.

Despite overcast skies early Sunday morning, it was a hot day across Taipei. But the weather is about to change all across Taiwan.

This weather front is moving eastward and is bringing rain to the western half of the island, where a strong convective system could be accompanied by lightning strikes and strong winds.

Eastern Taiwan was hit with brief thundershowers Sunday afternoon. The precipitation would only let up in the evening. Some parts of Eastern Taiwan even saw heavy rain Sunday, and the CWA says that a front will bring more of that rain on Monday.

The front will pass over the sea north of Taiwan on Monday, and there will be some brief showers in the northern and eastern half of the country throughout the day. On Wednesday and Thursday, the northeast monsoon will bring brief showers to the northern and eastern halves of Taiwan.

On Wednesday, another weather front accompanied by the northeast monsoon is expected to move in from the north, which is likely to lower temperatures with northern and eastern Taiwan seeing the mercury dip down to 20 degrees. The CWA says that while it does not forecast much rainfall for Wednesday, people are advised to bring raingear when heading outdoors just in case.
