In stories, the oldest magicians are always the wisest ones. For 100-year-old Chung Po-chiu, performing magic is a way to bring joy to other seniors. Throughout Chung’s interesting life, he not only learned magic, but has also collected an amazing number of unique lighters from around the world, turning his home in Taichung into an exhibition.

After going into a magic hat, this NT$100 bill turns blue, transforming into a NT$1,000 bill.

The NT$100 bill isn’t in that hat anymore, so where did it go?

Somehow, it ended up in Chung Po-chiu’s pocket, even though we never took our eyes off him.

I saw a magician at a market when I was young. I was short, so I squatted behind him and watched closely, learning magic when I was only 9. It was fun!

Now 100 years old, Chung has traveled to many places to perform magic. And his home is as intriguing as his experiences.

Not only is the wall decorated with artwork, but every type of lighter imaginable can be found here, from cartoon characters and instruments, to appliances and chess pieces.

My son is a pilot, so I can fly for free. I’ve traveled all over the world, and since lighters come in beautiful designs, whenever I see a nice one, I buy it.

Around 5,000 lighters are displayed at Chung’s home, with the lighter fluid removed for safety. His house is like a museum, commemorating the memories he has made traveling to over 50 countries in the past 30-plus years.
