With a population of 42,000 people, the payments will cost Huatan about NT$258 million. Distribution started on Monday. The office says that the program is funded through savings from personnel cuts and higher tax revenues. And somehow, it’s not the only place in Changhua handing out cash. Nearby Xianxi Township is giving residents NT$2,500 each, using Taipower community funds and budget surpluses, benefiting more than 15,000 people.
