The Ching Wan Society is a prestigious collectors’ club in Taiwan consisting of the country’s top collectors of artworks and artifacts. The National Museum of History is now holding an exhibition showcasing 350 works belonging to Ching Wan Society members. FTV reporter Stephany Yang takes us in for a look!
There are four sections in this exhibition. The “Western Classics” section features works by Yayoi Kusama, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Gerhard Richter, Claude Monet, and more. The sections allow visitors to learn about the development of modern and contemporary Western art, from the 19th century onward.

The work behind me is Monet’s famous work “Gros temps à Pourville.” Monet painted Pourville during different seasons in the morning, noon, and evening. This is one of the few paintings that depict a storm approaching Pourville. This was collected by Ching Wan Society a long time ago, and they are only sharing it with the local public at this 30th anniversary exhibition. This is a very rare opportunity.
Meanwhile, the “Taiwanese Modernism” section features works by Taiwanese artists such as Liao Chi-chun.

His works and Chen Cheng-po’s are sought after by several collectors in Taiwan at auctions. This work is a typical representative work after he changed his painting style and stepped into the modern era, breaking away from expressionism and cubism.
To celebrate The Ching Wan Society’s 30th Anniversary, The National Museum of History is showcasing a selection of Chinese calligraphy and painting, Western art, precious collectibles, and antiquities from its members’ collections. A total of 350 works are on display.

The Ching Wan Society is the most famous collection group in the global ethnic-Chinese community. Each of its members is currently the supervisor of very important large enterprises in Taiwan’s business community. Their early collections were mainly Chinese calligraphy, paintings, artifacts, and collectibles, but gradually, by the 20th anniversary, a group of new members joined, so the entire Western painting category was further expanded.
The exhibition will be held at the National Museum of History until March 23.
