Heavy rains pummeled Hualien earlier today, due to strong convective currents.

A mudslide from the cliff descended upon the north exit of Chongde Tunnel, sending rocks flying everywhere. Many vehicles passing through hastily took cover inside the tunnel. The heavy downpours had Provincial Highway Number 9, where the tunnel is located, closed off at one point. It also once again devastated part of Guangfu Township, which has yet to recover from the floods last year. Six residences in the township had to evacuate.
