Observers of Taiwanese folk beliefs celebrated the birthday of the Jade Emperor on Thursday. As per tradition, Pingtung’s Yuhuang Temple handed out more than 20,000 portions of stir-fried noodles for free to anyone willing to wait in line.
Volunteers fill up box after box with noodles packed with blessings for temple worshippers. Each person is limited to two servings, but they can line up again for more. The temple says they’ve held the giveaway event for about 20 years now, and that they hope the noodles will bring peace and prosperity in the coming year.
