Going overseas for a vacation is about to get more expensive. Airport service fees will double in price to fund projects at the airports in Taoyuan, Kaohsiung and Taichung. The higher fees will come into effect in two stages. The fee will go up from NT$500 to NT$750 per passenger on Sept. 1. Another rise will happen on Sept. 1, 2027, to hit NT$1,000. But that doesn’t mean you’ll have to bring cash to the airport. The fee will be collected by airlines as part of the ticket price. Travelers have mixed feelings about the change. Let’s hear more.

Airport service fees have remained unchanged for more than a decade, but construction costs have only climbed in recent years. The government is planning to spend NT$600 billion over the next 20 years to build Terminal 3 at Taoyuan International Airport, add a new Terminal to Kaohsiung International Airport, and expand Taichung International Airport.
