Typhoon Mekkhala is set to turn northwards on Tuesday and then move parallel alongside Taiwan’s east coast. Typhoon Mekkhala, which could potentially turn into a severe typhoon, will be nearest to Taiwan on Thursday and will bring thunderstorms to both western Taiwan and Yilan.

So we can see that on Thursday, overall, the weather will be rather unpredictable. In western Taiwan and Yilan there’ll likely be intermittent showers or thunderstorms. As for Hualien and Taitung, primarily there’ll be thunderstorms in the afternoon. Even though the typhoon will be heading farther away on Friday and Saturday, the weather front will still be hanging over the ocean to the north of Taiwan, so the weather will be all-over-the-place during this time.

Following in Typhoon Mekkhala’s wake is a tropical disturbance to the east; the Central Weather Administration will continue observing what could be this year’s eighth typhoon.
