Heavy rains plummeted all of Taiwan on Friday under the influence of a tropical storm, a weather front and southwesterly winds. Taoyuan, Hsinchu, and southern Taiwan were particularly hard hit, with many counties and cities suspending work and classes. Meteorology enthusiasts on social media say that in less than a day and a half, many areas in the plains of Pingtung had accumulated rainfall of over 800 millimeters.

The Central Weather Administration said that even though overall the rainfall is letting up, moisture levels remain high. On Saturday, rainfall will be primarily concentrated in western Taiwan, with residents in Hualien and Taitung advised to be aware of short-bursts of heavy rain. On Sunday, a frontal system will move northwards, bringing intermittent showers or thunderstorms to western Taiwan. There will also be intermittent showers or thunderstorms in Southern Taiwan on Monday. From Tuesday onwards, the weather will gradually improve, with mostly cloudy to sunny skies returning across the island. However, be mindful of afternoon thunderstorms.
