U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Wednesday talked about Taiwan at a hearing by the U.S. House Committee on Foreign Affairs. Blinken was asked about Taiwan’s invitation to the World Health Assembly, which has not yet materialized. He said the U.S. would continue working hard to get Taiwan invited. Let’s hear from him.

We’re going to work on it till the last second, if necessary. We’ve been going around trying to lobby other countries to engage on this. And of course we’ve taken this to Beijing directly.

U.S. Representative Young Kim from the Republican Party said that a bill to seek Taiwan’s participation in the WHO had been passed two years prior. As such, she said, that the U.S. government must continue to support Taiwan’s inclusion as an observer in the WHA.
