President Lai Ching-te took part in the second day of the Han Kuang live-fire military exercises on Wednesday, inspecting frontline operations at the Port of Taipei. He reviewed combat readiness with the Bali Garrison and received a briefing on the missile deployment status of Coast Guard vessels.

Lai rode in a Clouded Leopard 8x8 armored vehicle during a simulated attack on the area surrounding the Presidential Office. Military Police Rapid Response units formed a heavily armored convoy to escort the president to the Hengshan Command Center in Taipei’s Dazhi District. It was the first time President Lai personally participated in the exercises since taking office, highlighting the importance of this year’s training. Reports say the operation deployed three separate motorcades, traveling at different times along different routes to complicate enemy surveillance and targeting. US personnel were also on site throughout the exercise, observing the operation from start to finish.
