President Tsai Ing-wen has urged Minister of National Defense Chiu Kuo-cheng to remain in his post, after Chiu gave his resignation verbally to her on Thursday. The move comes after allegations emerged that Chiu’s son, who works at the National Security Bureau, had hired prostitutes and shot pornographic videos.

The NSB has begun an investigation into the matter. A presidential spokesperson says Tsai asked Chiu to stay on as defense minister in consideration of the state of the nation’s affairs during a government transition period.
