Two backhoe operators were working on a sandbar near Dajin Bridge, on the border between Liugui District and Pingtung Country, when the river suddenly surged. They were trapped on the sandbar with no way out, and rescue efforts proved difficult due to the strong current. Fortunately, firefighters from Kaohsiung and Pingtung were able to work together and bring the workers to solid ground. The two men were doing dredging work along the embankment of Zhuokou River, when a torrential downpour hit the area, causing a breach upstream. The water came rushing down, causing a rapid swell that left the men stranded. Our reporter witnessed the dramatic rescue firsthand, as the firefighters navigated the strong current in an inflatable raft.
