On June 29, just a little after midnight, in New Taipei’s Sanchong District a woman grabbed a fire extinguisher and then doused a Cosmed, leaving the drugstore covered in a white film. Yet by the time police officers arrived, the woman had already fled the scene. The police have identified the woman, and will be summoning her for questioning.

The store owner had people begin cleaning up the area immediately after this act of vandalism occurred. But since the owner had not previously installed metal shutters, this resulted in some of the foam getting inside the store.

If a person arbitrarily sprays a fire extinguisher without there being an actual fire, then this conduct is considered an act of public disturbance. Furthermore, environmental pollution has occurred, which, according to the Social Order Maintenance Act and Waste Disposal Act, could result in up to three days of detention or a fine up to NT$12,000.

One of the cleaners mops while the other wipes a wall. But that’s not all; a thin layer of white foam is covering the floor inside the store as well as items near the door. 40-year-old Ms. Lee, the perpetrator, is infamous for causing trouble in the local area. Video surveillance footage reveals that in the middle of the night she let off some steam by grabbing a roadside extinguisher and then dousing this drugstore. But this night isn’t over yet for the wrongdoer, as legal ramifications remain.
