An iconic piece of Taipei Main Station is about to disappear, according to the renovation plans of its new operator, Shin Kong Mitsukoshi.

The most shocking redesign will take place in the main lobby, where the famous black-and-white checkerboard flooring will be completely removed. A 600-inch LED screen will be installed on one of the walls, to display scenes of Taiwan’s landscape and culture to travelers. It will also play sporting events when they happen, so that everyone can cheer on for Team Taiwan indoors. The first phase of the revamp will add sensors to the public toilets for better management. In addition, an escalator is being planned to connect the Basement level directly with the second floor. All in all the revamp will take 2 years and 8 months.
