Imagine getting home after a long day only to find an eagle chilling on your couch. That’s kind of what happened to a netizen who went to his grandmother’s house in Nantou’s Zhongliao Township. A crested serpent eagle had somehow made its way inside the home’s living room. Calls to animal rescue didn’t get an answer, and firefighters said they only dealt with snakes. Videos of the eagle went viral online, with some netizens jokingly dubbing the bird “a couch potato raptor.” Let’s hear what you should do from an expert.

Cases like this are sometimes birds that have just recently left the nest and have little experience in the wild. In other cases, the bird may accidentally wander in because there are many open entrances. The best thing to do is to try not to touch them. Find a cardboard box of the right size and cover the animal with it, or let it get it into the box. This will help keep it calm and prevent it from struggling or crashing into things. Once it has gradually recovered, move the box outdoors and let it fly away on its own.
