More than 10,000 workers took to the streets to advocate for their rights on Labor Day across two marches in Taiwan on Friday. The one in Taipei started off on Ketagalan Boulevard, and its focus was labor pension system reform.

The labor groups presented eight major demands, including raising the employer contribution rate under the new labor pension system from the current 6% gradually up to 12%. They also called for eliminating restrictions under the old system, and increasing severance pays. The march ended at the Legislative Yuan, where the labor groups handed their demands to representatives of the DPP, KMT and TPP. They urged lawmakers to push for legislative amendments, and establish a sustainable system so that workers across all industries cam enjoy better working conditions.
