Parking in the city is expensive, but one driver was charged NT$120 after parking for just nine minutes at Gangshan Station in Kaohsiung. The Transportation Bureau said the driver was charged for two hours because she entered before 8am and left after 8am, when the rates change. But parking lots are legally required to charge in half-hour increments, so the operator may be fined.
A driver was leaving the Gangshan Station parking lot after parking there for nine minutes, but was shocked at the price.
Ms. Huang黃 was charged NT$120 after being in the lot for less than 10 minutes. She thought there must be a mistake, but had to pay the fee to leave the lot.

I parked in the lot next door, which is operated under contract with the Public Works Bureau. I was shocked when I went to pay, I was charged NT$120 after parking for nine minutes.
The lot posted special rates for the Retrocession Day long weekend, charging NT$60 per hour, with a maximum fee of NT$250 from 8am to 10pm, and only NT$100 from 10pm to 8am. Ms. Huang entered the lot at 7:56am and left at 8:06am, but was charged for two hours of parking because she entered before 8am and left after 8am, when the rates changed.

I’m not sure how they calculate the parking fees, whether they charge by the hour or a flat rate. I hope they can make the pricing rules clearer.
Voice of Wang Chih-kang
Kaohsiung Transportation Bureau chief secretary
The operator switched between daytime and nighttime rates at 8am and charged NT$60 per hour, so a driver who parked across the two time periods was charged twice, for a total of NT$120.
The Transportation Bureau said it would look into the incident and may fine the operator, as parking lots are legally required to charge in half-hour increments.

It’s unreasonable, really unreasonable. It’s just a single case, right?

Before it was only NT$30, so I don’t know why it went up to NT$80 today.
Charging NT$120 for parking for just nine minutes is excessive, but the driver isn’t sure she will get a refund. The parking rate also doubled from NT$30 to NT$60 per hour over the long weekend, prompting criticism for the steep increase.
