Taiwan shares continue to hit new highs. The Taiex shot up by 646 points, or 1.75%, to close at a whopping 37,605 points on Tuesday, with trading volume reaching NT$981.5 billion. Electronics shares made gains across the board. Among them was MediaTek, which closed limit-up amid reports that it’s entered the optical communications sector. TMSC shares gained NT$25 to close at NT$2,050. But experts warn that, after such a strong rally, short term volatility is inevitable. Let’s hear from an analyst.

In a period of just about two weeks, the index has gained 6,000 points. TSMC posted very positive figures at its earnings conference for Q1. In a medium- to long-term perspective, there is indeed the chance that the index will surpass 40,000 points. The main driver for growth is electronics stocks, with AI at the core. Approaching 38,000 points is a satisfactory checkpoint in the short-term. We can also observe that foreign investors and institutional investors began cashing in profits yesterday. At this point, volatility is hard to avoid.
Taiwan shares have skyrocketed, fueled by returning capital flows and strong AI demand. Whether the market will actually surpass 38,000 points will depend on the strength of trading volume and capital flows.
