Last week, KMT Chair Cheng Li-wun sat with Chinese leader Xi Jinping in Beijing. Just days later, China’s Taiwan Affairs Office announced 10 policy measures for Taiwan, which aim to benefit sectors such as agriculture, fisheries and tourism. KMT Vice Chair Hsiao Hsu-tsen has touted that as an achievement for cross-strait relations, but critics are saying it’s an infiltration tactic resembling a modern-day Trojan horse. Let’s hear more.

The 10 measures are anything but innovative. It’s a modern-day Trojan horse. They would hand over Taiwan’s lifeline to the enemy. If we accept them, it’s like dealing with the devil. It would have major consequences for Taiwan’s future.

The main channel for cross-strait exchanges and economic and trade interactions should be the central government. It shouldn’t be through party-to-party exchanges with private dealings. Whenever elections are coming up, the CCP is always ready to present so-called “beneficial” measures for Taiwan. It’s a tactic they use to interfere in Taiwan’s elections.
The DPP criticized the KMT on social media, saying the party was very self-satisfied. It argued that none of the 10 measures were anything new, that they were just old tactics recycled over again. It said that Beijing gives benefits to Taiwan that it can later withdraw, asking the KMT if it will ever stop falling for their old tricks.
