Taoyuan and Kagawa Prefecture in Japan became sister cities in 2016. Ten years later on July 30, the Kagawa Junior Philharmonic Orchestra and the Wu-Ling Senior High School Wind Band from Taoyuan performed together to celebrate the milestone and kick-start into another decade of harmonious friendship.

With a lively melody and brisk tempo, a jazzy blend of Japanese and Taiwanese music resounds through the halls of Taoyuan’s Wu-Ling Senior High School.

The audience listens attentively to this concert commemorating the 10th anniversary of sister city relations between Taoyuan and Kagawa Prefecture, performed by the Wu-Ling wind band and Japan’s Kagawa Junior Philharmonic.

Chien Yu-chun
Wu-Ling High School band member
At first, there were slight differences in our playing styles, so we had to listen to each other more attentively. But through the conductor’s adjustments and everyone’s cooperation, our chemistry improved.

Yang Yu-yun
Wu-Ling High School band member
Last year, we went to Kagawa for an exchange, where the kind people there treated us with so much hospitality.

Taoyuan and Kagawa Prefecture became sister cites 10 years ago in July 2016. But the bands have had a relationship for longer than that, starting 19 years ago.

Su Jun-pin
Taoyuan Deputy Mayor
Over the past few years, beyond musical exchanges, we’ve also had exchanges in land art and sports, including a marathon, and there’s even been close cooperation between our library and the Kagawa Prefectural Library. We plan to continue exchanges in all areas into the future.

Celebrating this important milestone, both sides join hands to guide their friendship into its next decade.
