The ever-popular Disney movie “Frozen” has gotten an Indigenous twist on its stage adaptation at Kaohsiung American School. Following a resounding success of the schools’ production of “The Little Mermaid” last year, a total of 101 students took the stage to perform the icy musical, fully in English. The participants ranged from elementary to high school, and gave the spectacular show their all. Let’s take a look.

We spent a long time preparing for the musical. It was a lot of hard work, mentally and physically. It was completely worth it.

I would like to thank my mum and dad, and everyone who spent so much time making this happen, from the lights to the clothes… everything was fantastic.

The highlight is seeing how joyful the students are and proud of their hard work and to see them bring confidence and strength in this.

They incorporated Indigenous elements into the performance. I give the students here a big thumbs up!

The stage props and costumes were exquisitely made, and they even incorporated motifs from Taiwan’s Indigenous cultures. The lighting was out of this world, with lights that created an immersive viewing experience. Every little detail was taken care of to take the audience on a snowy adventure in the Kingdom of Arendelle.
