The National Immigration Agency has revoked a Chinese tourist’s Taiwan Entry Permit, after he made provocative posts on Douyin, the Chinese version of TikTok. In one post, he wrote: The Chinese red of our flag will soon cover all of Alishan in Taiwan Province. The National Immigration Agency said his social media content violated principles of parity and dignity for cross-strait exchanges. Let’s hear more from officials.

The actions of the party involved in this case clearly violated the principles of parity and dignity. After consulting with relevant authorities, we have, in accordance with the law, revoked their entry permit—nullified their entry and exit permit to safeguard national security and social stability.

Coming to Taiwan should be about enjoying its culture and scenery, and sightseeing, which we certainly welcome. However, we will absolutely not tolerate any deliberate violation of our laws and regulations, or even any ideological provocation against Taiwan, or any behavior that deliberately denigrates Taiwan.
The Chinese tourist in question has visited other places in Taiwan. For example, this post featuring Kaohsiung Main Station was captioned, “Visiting Taiwan Province. The mountain and the sea are but one, and we are the same in blood and lineage. The Taiwan Strait isn’t so wide, and the way home is always there.” Apparently, he enjoys traveling to Taiwan so much that he’s made three trips in just one year. But now that his provocative speech has crossed a line, he may no longer be able to enjoy his favorite pineapple cakes at Taoyuan International Airport as he’d much like to.
