If you think you’ve seen it all when it comes to Taiwan’s traffic chaos, here’s a new one. In Taichung, a big truck was spotted squeezing its way into through a narrow lane meant for scooters. Despite the signage, the vehicle steered into the special lane, and refused to turn back, scratching its way to the exit and causing damage. Police say they did not receive a report on the matter, but the truck driver has been notified to pay for repairs, and will be slapped with a fine of up to NT$1,800. Let’s hear more.

He’s quite skilled! Aside from the bed, nothing else got scratched along the way.

Sometimes, people who aren’t familiar with the area drive into the lane by mistake.

Vehicles other than scooters are forbidden from using the scooter lanes. Doing so is finable with between NT$600 and NT$1,800.
But the truck’s decision was not without reason. At the site, if you turn right from Wuri Park Road onto Huanhe Road, it’s quite easy to end up in the narrow scooter lane if you are unfamiliar with the area. If you try to go under the overpass instead, the height limit of 1.5m could block you, or force you to reverse a whole 500m. In this latest case, the truck driver decided to force the vehicle onto the scooter lane, resulting in that absurd scene.
