The war in the Middle East has caused oil prices to skyrocket, but also other materials in the petrochemical industry such as plastic. Already, shortages of plastic bags have been reported in several countries.

In Taiwan, big box retailer Costco has announced purchase limits on 10 plastic products including cling film, bags and disposable gloves. Each member may only purchase one of each. Other retailers say they don’t plan to follow suit. PX Mart says there are no reports of rush buying or hoarding. In fact, Mega Px Mart has announced a buy-one-get-one free offer on several products. Carrefour and a.mart say they have sufficient units in inventory and are not planning on increasing prices.
