Hundreds of travelers had their travel plans disrupted early Monday morning due to a signal system malfunction on the Taiwan High Speed Rail. The malfunction happened on the Miaoli section of the tracks, causing long delays across all services. Maintenance crews were quickly dispatched to fix the issue. Several services were canceled to be later substituted by three hourly trains with fully non-reserved seats. Some services also made additional stops in Miaoli and Taoyuan.

For the evening rush hour, the rail operator added eight short-distance train services, and activated a transport contingency plan to guide passengers to alternative transport options. Ticket holders who saw delays of between 30 minutes and 1 hour are entitled to a refund of 50% of the ticket’s cost. Any delays above 1 hour will be refunded in full. The company says it will conduct a detailed inspection at night to determine the cause of the malfunction.
