The patient is a man in his forties who got bitten by a rat in early April. He sought medical attention after developing a fever and feeling lethargic, after which he tested positive for the disease. Genetic sequencing of the virus has found that it is of the same strain as the two previous cases in Northern Taiwan. The strain, called Seoul virus causes mild symptoms and has a mortality rate of just 1%. It is not known to be transmissible between humans.
