French dairy giant Lactalis has recalled six batches of baby formula, worldwide, over toxin fears. It’s reported that an ingredient they sourced from a supplier was found to be contaminated with Bacillus cereum. Although the six batches concerned have not yet entered the Taiwanese market, the scare has prompted a Taiwanese brand to voluntarily recall a certain batch of baby formula as the risk of raw source material contamination cannot be ruled out. Let’s hear more from health officials.
Shih Chung-liang
Minister of Health and Welfare
The overseas headquarters notified us that two batches were contaminated with Bacilius cereum. Of the two batches, one has already entered the market, while the other has not been imported. The one batch is now being recalled from shelves.
Voice of Hsu Chao-kai
Food and Drug Administration
We urge members of the public to immediately check the batch code of infant formula at home. If it’s the batch code mentioned, do immediately stop giving it to your kids and get in touch with the seller to return the product.
Taiwan’s Neo Angelac brand has preemptively recalled their baby formulas with the batch code 8000003215, and is refunding affected customers. In total, there are more than 29,000 units in the batch. The Bacilius cereum produces toxins that causes vomited and diarrhea, and cannot be killed in high temperatures, making contaminated products dangerous to consume.
