Heavy pickup and drop-off traffic took over the surroundings of Taoyuan International Airport on Friday, the first day of the Tomb Sweeping Festival long weekend. Under new rules, fines are in place for any vehicle that remains stationary for over three minutes at meeting points outside Terminals 1 and 2. The automated system was originally set to launch on April 1, but as it is still undergoing testing, authorities are currently focusing on public awareness instead of issuing tickets. Let’s hear more.

Lin Wei-shao
Aviation Police Bureau
The system is still under testing and announcement. We will continue enhancing traffic planning and management around the airport, and call on the public to follow traffic regulations when moving through the area.

Approves of policy
I think the policy is good. It should help ease traffic congestion. Otherwise, some cars just stay in the same spot waiting to pick up people, and that causes huge traffic jams.

The Aviation Police Bureau says enforcement will be temporarily suspended while testing continues, with ongoing public education efforts. Drivers picking up passengers are encouraged to wait in the parking lot, where the first 30 minutes are free.
