Many people in Taiwan love to go abroad to see snow over the winter months. To stay safe walking in icy conditions, some like to buy snow cleats or crampons. But where should you pack them in your luggage? Taoyuan International Airport said it has recently caught multiple travelers attempting to board flights with ice cleats in their carry-on. But since they’re sharp metal objects, they pose a safety risk and must be confiscated.

Lots of people like to travel abroad to see snow over the winter. Apart from the essentials like a warm jacket, gloves, and hat, some also bring cleats or crampons for their shoes.

Crampons come in all shapes and sizes, like this one that slips on over your shoes that you can take on and off as needed. But be careful when going through customs at the airport. From December, the Aviation Police Bureau said it started having to confiscate crampons from travelers attempting to bring them on the plane.

- I don’t know.
- How do you usually pack?
- I just stuff my clothes in.

You can’t take knives or scissors... Let me think. It’s anything dangerous.

Travelers are often unclear on the regulations. Many snowshoes on the market have spikes directly attached to the bottom. But when flying, they should be packed in your check-in luggage. Since they have sharp metal objects, they pose a flight risk and will be flagged during security.

Do not check portable chargers or lighters. Liquids cannot exceed 100ml. Remove laptops, jackets, hats, and other items for inspection before security screening to expedite the process.

Travelers are recommended to check for prohibited materials before departing and pack appropriately. If you aren’t careful, your trip could be ruined before it even begins.
