An 83-year-old scooter rider became the protagonist of a scary traffic crash in Taichung last Sunday. The elderly woman was approaching a red light when she apparently lost control over the vehicle due to having a brake failure. That resulted in her rear-ending a fellow rider, a 75-year-old woman who was stopped at a red light. Let’s hear more.

The woman who caused the crash had faulty brakes. She was on her way to get them fixed. So she tried to brake with her legs. The woman who got rear-ended fell over. But she got back up and drove off. We went to talk to her and asked her to come back.

The accident resulted in injuries to two scooter riders. Police administered alcohol tests, and neither rider showed any alcohol in their system.

The crash was captured on the dashcam of a nearby car. The video shows the 75-year-old waiting at the red light, when she is suddenly rammed by a scooter, leaving her on the ground. The speeding scooter with the 83-year-old is seen continuing forward after the crash, wobbling as she tries to stop the scooter with her leg on the ground. She swayed left and right across the intersection before finally coming to a stop on the roadside near a repair shop. Both riders suffered multiple abrasions and were taken to the hospital, but neither sustained any serious injuries. The exact cause of the accident remains under investigation.
