It’s been a sweltering few days islandwide. A high pressure system and southwesterly winds have brought maximum temperatures to almost 40°C around Taiwan. Advisories for high temps were issued for 12 locations on Tuesday morning. The highest temperature recorded was in Beiliao, Tainan, at 39.5°C, followed by Quchi in New Taipei at 38.6°C.

Taipei’s Neihu District, Keelung’s Qidu District and the town of Yuli in Hualien were among places that also surpassed 38°C. Moving forward, the heat is set to ease just a little on Wednesday, with highs of 37°C expected islandwide. Temps may ease by 1 to 2 degrees starting Thursday, but it won’t be until Friday that the difference is noticeable. A weather front is set to bring rain and bring temps down to a still toasty but less scorching 35°C.
