One of the top AI industry events in Asia, the AI EXPO Taiwan kicked off on Wednesday at the Taipei Expo Park. The three day event is celebrating its fifth anniversary. At the opening ceremony, Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an declared his ambition to make Taipei a driving force in the AI wave. Let’s hear what he said.

We have continued to attract investment and bring in partners in the AI supply chain. Among them are Wistron and Wiwynn, which decided to invest in Neihu in July and October last year. Meanwhile, Google chose Shilin as the site for its largest AI tech R&D center outside the US. We are also very pleased to have finalized a contract with Nvidia this past February. Taipei will certainly play a powerful role at the core of the AI wave.

There’s companies from South Korea, Singapore and India here, which shows that Taiwan has really become the center of global attention. I think we should develop this sector by forming collaborations between the government and industry players. We should point our efforts in that direction.

Less than an hour after opening, the event had already attracted over a thousand industry decision-makers. More than 60 prominent speakers will be delivering keynotes and discussing the latest trends on stage, focusing on enterprise applications and business strategy. Topics also cover areas such as extreme computing power and inference economics, aiming to showcase Taiwan’s key role in the global AI competition.
