Singer Chen Yinuo, also known as Sarah, is proud to announce her debut album! Born to a father from Hong Kong and a Hakka Chinese mother, her songs seamlessly weave together the Hakka, Cantonese, Mandarin and English languages. A highlight of the album is her reinterpretation of the classic Hakka nursery rhyme Rain from the Sky, giving the old song a new twist.

Without missing a beat, Singer Chen Yinuo, also known as Sarah, introduces herself by seamlessly skipping between four languages. For her debut album, she recorded songs in Mandarin, English, Cantonese, and Hakka.

Performing on acoustic guitar, Sarah shares the original song “Young Person” that she wrote as a dialogue with herself.

I asked my six-year-old self: Seeing me now, are you at all disappointed? Then I asked my six-year-old self: If the current me realizes the dreams I had back then, would you be proud of me?

Sarah had her doubts while chasing her dream. Fortunately, she had the full support of her family and friends, giving her the courage she needed to keep going. Notably, her father is from Hong Kong and her mother is Hakka. Even though she group up in a linguistically rich environment, she still makes blunders sometimes.

I often mix Cantonese and Hakka while speaking. I’ll suddenly forget whether I’m speaking Cantonese or Hakka. It happens all the time.

For the album, she also put her own spin on the classic Hakka nursery rhyme Rain from the Sky.

When writing lyrics, every language has its own unique expressive style. It’s a very interesting process.

Beyond documenting her own growth through music, Sarah hopes to show everyone the magic that happens when different languages collide in one song.
