The first phase of training has kicked off for the team that is to represent Taiwan at the World Baseball Classic. Among the players showing up at the National Sports Training Center in Kaohsiung were US-based standouts including Cheng Tsung-che and Lyle Lin. There was also Japan-based players such as Ku Lin Ruei-yang and Sun Yi-lei. Baseball star Chen Chieh-hsien, who led Taiwan to victory at the Premier12 in 2024, will once again be their spiritual leader. Let’s hear more.

Our players will focus on preparing on the field, staying in good shape and facing every challenge head-on. We hope to get the best possible result for Taiwan. The first phase of training will last until the Lunar New Year and will take place in Kaohsiung. Then, training will move to the Taipei dome for the second phase, which will also feature two exhibition games against the Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks and the Hokkaido Nippon-Ham Fighters from Japan’s NPB. The team will depart for Miyazaki, Japan on Feb. 28, to play two warm-up games. Then, they will head to Tokyo for the most important matches in the tournament, playing four consecutive games starting March 5.
