Just in time for the Lunar New Year, Pingtung opened a brand-new, inclusive public park. The 5.14-hectare Balu Park in the county’s Jiuru Township cost NT$120 million to build. It includes multiple playgrounds with different equipment and games, a roller-skating rink, pond, fitness area, and large jungle gym with multiple slides. Children and adults alike can find fun, active ways to enjoy time together in this all-new outdoor space.

Kids eagerly climb up a jungle gym, excited to go down the slides.

Other kids crowd onto swings close by, excitedly swinging higher and higher.

Meanwhile in the sandbox, kids dig out something large and green, trying to uncover what it could be.

Can you guess what fruit it is?
I think it’s a melon.
Betelnut, hahaha!

This is the newly opened Balu Park in Pingtung’s Jiuru Township. The 5.14-hectare park cost NT$120 million to build. It has multiple playgrounds, including a huge jungle gym with three slides, giving children lots of choice.

What do you think about the equipment here?
It’s really cool.

Chou Chun-mi
Pingtung County Commissioner
This is the first project I planned and completed since taking office. It’s a very important, inclusive park that children love. It used to be a tobacco factory, so one of our main playgrounds was designed by the old factory.

The commissioner enjoyed herself trying one of the new slides, nearly flying off the end.

In addition to playgrounds, the park also has a pond, walking paths, and a roller-skating rink. The whole park is built to be accessible, so seniors and people with disabilities can all enjoy outdoor activities here.

Pingtung County Commissioner
When people think of Jiuru, they think of lemons. We have an ecological pond with lots of sustainable, environmentally friendly elements that are showcased in this inclusive park.

With the park opening shortly before the Lunar New Year, families will be able to enjoy it during the upcoming vacation.
