The patient is a man in his 70s, who’s become the second case of disease this year. He was admitted to the hospital with symptoms including fever, muscle pain and reduced urine production. He has since been discharged, but it remains a mystery how he got infected in the first place, as he had no history of contact with rodents. Videos have cropped up of rats fighting on a manhole cover, or running around on the grass. Someone even caught a Malayan night heron swallowing a dead rat whole. Locals are becoming increasingly concerned about the spread of rodent-borne diseases such as Hantavirus. A physician, Chen Chih-chin, says that rodent bites are not necessarily the more common source of infection. Instead, it’s inhaling dust that has been contaminated with rodent droppings. The best way to prevent an infection, he says, is by wearing masks and gloves when cleaning. For more Taiwan news, tune in:Mon to Fri at 9:30 pm on Channel 152Tue to Sat at 1 am on Channel 53#hantavirus #cleaning #rat #disease #rodents#台灣新聞 #TaiwanNews #民視新聞 #FTV新聞 #Taiwan
