Saint Kitts and Nevis Ambassador Donya Lynex Francis recently appeared on a TaiwanICDF program, where he spoke about his experience as a scholarship recipient at the fund and six years as a student in Taiwan. In the interview he said he “is a Taiwanese,” and would maybe finally try stinky tofu in 2027.

How was this ambassador able to get the International Cooperation and Development Fund secretary to say he’s “very localized”?

- Hi everyone, I’m Donya Lynex Francis. I’m from the Caribbean country Saint Kitts and Nevis.

Saint Kitts and Nevis Ambassador Donya Lynex Francis recently went on a program hosted by TaiwanICDF, where he was previously a scholarship student.

- I studied in Taiwan from 2012 to 2018.

Francis was in Taiwan for years, but he never tried this one classic local food.

- Did you like stinky tofu?
- I’ve never eaten stinky tofu. OK, maybe in 2027.

Francis shared his love for Taiwan. He also has a wide range of talents, including singing.

With such effortless vocals, it’s no wonder he won the grand prize in a singing competition for foreigners in Taiwan. While sharing some snacks with the host, Francis reminisced about his happy student days. He said that speaking Chinese isn’t hard, but there’s always room for improvement. If you ever run into him on the Taipei streets, you’ll have to watch what you say.

- He understands.
- Right. Don’t do it!
