More M1A2T tanks has arrived in Taiwan from the US. This last batch comprises 28 tanks, out of a procurement totaling 108 units. The model has been dubbed “the strongest tank on Earth.” This last shipment arrived at the Port of Taipei, and was transferred to Hukou in Hsinchu on 10 large flatbed trucks. DPP Legislator Wang Ting-yu says they will be key to defending Northern Taiwan, and urged opposition parties to “wake up” and stop blocking a proposed special defense budget. Let’s hear from Wang.

In Taiwan, we make payments following the procurements scheduled. We don’t pay up and wait. That’s not what happens. Rumors of this kind aim to obstruct our procurement of other advanced equipment and at blocking our defense budget. No matter how many times we explain this, people don’t listen. They pretend to sleep and don’t wake up.

Military enthusiasts celebrated the arrival of the tanks with national flags. The T at the end of M1A2T signifies that it’s a version of the hat that’s been specially customized for Taiwan. Since 2019, Taiwan has purchased 108 units from the US at a total cost of NT$40.5 billion. The first batch of 38 units and the second batch of 42 units have already been deployed. The final batch will be used in training after Taiwan and the US complete handover procedures.
