One peacock farmer in Miaoli’s Toufen bred a unique kind of peacock whose blue and white feathers resemble patterns on traditional Chinese porcelain. When these peacocks proudly display their tail feathers, they look like works of art. FTV brings an exclusive look at these beautiful birds.
This moving work of art displays its stunning tail feathers, the blue and white colors forming an exquisite pattern reminiscent of traditional Chinese porcelain.

Compared with common white peacocks and blue peacocks, these porcelain peacocks are more appealing, because when they open their tail feathers, it’s even more stunning and beautiful.
When these porcelain peacocks display their tail feathers, different angles bring out different colors. Their owner, Mr. Fan, took over eight years to breed them for this specific appearance.

Through years of observation and selective breeding, we can tell as soon as the peacock hatches whether it’s a porcelain peacock, so our genetic line is very stable now.
While these peacocks look very elegant once full grown, they seem like ordinary chicks when they first hatch. It takes a carefully trained eye and years of experience to tell which chicks will be most valuable.

It’s beautiful because it’s not just a plain blue peacock. The coloring on its back has the look of blue and white porcelain.
About one in 1,000 blue peacocks are born with a mutation that makes their feathers both blue and white. Their stunning, porcelain-like appearance shows the passion and dedication of Taiwanese peacock farmers.
