A T-34C trainer aircraft crashed at Gangshan Air Base in Kaohsiung just past 8 o’clock on Tuesday morning, killing the two pilots onboard. The Air Force pilots were conducting training mission simulating an engine failure, when they crashed into the ground near the northern end of the runway 20 minutes after takeoff.

The aircraft had undergone its most recent regular inspection in April of this year, and had flown for more than 98 hours without any major malfunctions. The military has suspended all related training missions and grounded all T-34C trainers. An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the crash.
