One Air Force pilot was killed and another is missing, after two F-5E fighter jets apparently collided off the coast of Pingtung. The two jets disappeared from radar around 3 p.m. during a training exercise. Both pilots were able to eject from the aircraft before the crash into the sea.
A search and rescue team has been able to recover one of the pilots, First Lieutenant Lo Shang-hua, who was found unconscious and pronounced dead at Taitung's Mackay Memorial Hospital. The search is ongoing for the second pilot, Captain Pan Ying-chun. The incident comes just five months after an F-5F fighter jet crashed into the sea off the coast of Taitung, killing the pilot.
